Daniel De La Torre Death: University of California, Los Angeles Alumnus has died

Sadly, Daniel De La Torre, a UCLA player for the Bruins from 2013 to 2018, passed away at the age of 29. De La Torre, a California native from Alhambra, left a lasting influence on both the university’s track and field team and other individuals. Those who knew and loved him are in deep sadness following his unexpected departure.

“I was devastated to learn of Daniel’s passing,” said Joanna Hayes, The Sherie L. and Donald G. Morrison UCLA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. “He had such contagious energy, and I will forever cherish every moment that I was fortunate enough to spend with him. We mourn his loss with the UCLA community; our hearts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Education and Sports

De La Torre was an inspiration of optimism and tenacity, not just an athlete. He made a substantial contribution to the track and field program, and everyone who knew him will always remember him as a devoted competitor and encouraging teammate. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, De La Torre had a strong interest in teaching. He was a well-liked educator at South Pasadena’s Almansor Academy, an all-special education school. His dedication to his students was unshakeable, and he frequently supported educational issues with his platform as a competitive distance runner.

De La Torre’s recent achievements demonstrated his commitment to running. After an outstanding showing at the 2023 California International Marathon in Sacramento, where he finished in 2:17:32, he earned a spot in the U.S. Team Olympic Trials for 2024. His charity was equal to his athletic abilities, as he raised money for his kids’ curricular improvement through marathon running.

The sports and academic spheres are both lacking in Daniel De La Torre. Those who had the honor of knowing him will always be inspired by his generosity, commitment, and love of serving others. The UCLA community is in deep grief over his passing and sends its sincere sympathies to his friends and family at this trying time. The numerous lives that Daniel De La Torre touched will carry on his legacy as they honor a wonderful man who gave so much to others.
